It's an Old Fix Sir, but it Checks Out
Posted 04/17/2020 by Anonymous Tech Supporter

I received a ticket late in the day from one of those users who never responds to any email requests for update.

"Cannot hear audio through computer headset. Speakerphone works."

In my first email, I ask him to try unplugging/replugging the headset, and if that doesn't work, to disconnect the headset, reboot, and reconnect after it is finished.

No response.

By the time my third email "this ticket will be closed pending response from you" goes out, I get a "ticket can be closed" message from him.

"I blew into the connector like an old style NES cartridge and it now works."

I mean come on!!!

Doctor Refuses to update
Posted 04/20/2020 by Anonymous Tech Supporter

Doctor is having trouble running our software. He's getting an error that windows cannot find ncrypt.dll.

I find out that he's trying to run our updated software on a WINDOWS XP because he can't afford to upgrade. What's worse is that it's his main computer that's running it. I tell him that ncrypt.dll is not part of Windows XP. He asks whether he can just copy it from an updated computer. I tell him no because it's not supported by XP.

I tell him that he'll have to go back to our software's old version, but he won't get any updates or fixes. He's ok with that.

He's also ok with not getting the latest Microsoft security updates.

I don't trust anything

A client called needing help making modifications to her screens. In order for me to help her, I need to dial in using WebEx, which involves installing an extension and the latest Java. She doesn't want to install the extension or Java because she doesn't trust them. I asked her whether she's familiar with Screen builder (which is what's needed to modify the screens). She said no. I told her unless you let Webex install what's necessary, I can't help you because I can't show you. She said thanks anyway. I'm willing to bet she'll call and complain.
